Director’s Report
Welcome to Mercy Primary Care Center! In 2007, Mercy Primary Care celebrates six years of service to the community.

Mercy Primary Care Center was established as a continuing ministry of Trinity Health in Detroit, in the face of a significant community need for access to primary care. Since opening in 2001 with the mission of providing a medical safety net to uninsured adults in Detroit, Mercy Primary Care Center has touched the lives of more than 4,500 individuals and currently provides a medical home for approximately 1,300 patients. By providing a medical home, Mercy offers much more than primary care. We facilitate comprehensive health care services and provide the support that will help our patients maintain their health. From transportation services to help patients access care to an on-site pharmacy which provides the medications the patient will need to manage their condition, Mercy surrounds patients with the resources they need to improve not only their health, but also their quality of life. Strong partnerships with other health service organizations and community agencies help make this possible.

Six years after we opened our doors, there continues to be a need for the care that Mercy provides. Many Detroit residents are coping with chronic diseases and do not have a medical home. Without a primary care provider to provide screening and preventative care, a number of these individuals don't know that they have a chronic condition. These conditions can go undiagnosed until they are hospitalized as a result of a serious complication. As many as 37% of residents in the area surrounding MPCC lack health insurance. Furthermore, disparities in access to health care and the quality of care received are getting worse, with lack of insurance having a larger impact on care disparities than race, income or level of education. As MPCC looks forward to the future, it is clear that our mission is still relevant and our existence is vital. Mercy intends to continue to provide high quality health care to the uninsured to meet the growing needs in the community.
